Young players look good

One of the young players that I think is going to put up good numbers over the next few years is Brett Anderson of the A's. He certainly got off to a great start for the 2010 season as he dominated the Mariners over six innings of shutout ball. He allowed just three hits and had 4 K's. He is just 22 years of age and last year he won 11 games and flirted with some no hitters along the way.

Another of the great youthful starters in the league is Brian Matusz of the Orioles. He managed to pick up his first W of the season. He didn't dominate like Anderson but he still pitched effectively. Matusz K'd an impressive 7 Rays batters over 5 innings of ball. He allowed just 2 hits before handing the ball over to the bullpen. Matusz is a 23 year old that picked up 5 wins in the late season last year.

Chad Billingsley started off the season in the W column as the Dodgers took it to the Pirates. Chad pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing just one earned run while striking out seven. I am reminded of Roger Clemens whenever I see him toe the rubber. I think you know my opinion of Clemens, not a big fan, but I am a fan of Billingsley. Chad now has 48 career wins and I expect big numbers from him, this could be his breakout year.

Offensively it was nice to see the Cubs Tyler Colvin pick up his first career dinger. Being a Cubs fan for a long time, it is always exciting to see them developing some talent. Speaking of Cubs talent, AA pitcher Andrew Cashner was impressive in his debut striking out the first seven batters he faced, and striking out 10 of the first 12. help is on the way soon.
