After some debate I have decided to begin to include Andy again in my discussion because I believe that his win total has been slightly impacted as a result of his poor choices. I wish he had never been involved but the fact is he is and has been a quality pitcher for a number of years. He is one of the few guys that has actually admitted that he was involved so I will give him that.
Andy is off to a great start this season as he moved his record to 3-0 on the season. His ERA after 4 starts is a miniscule 1.29 and he has now won 232 games as a 37 year old. By the end of this season he could be in the 245 range which would level him about 55 wins away from the magic number. If he could pick up 12-15 wins a season and could pitch until he turned 42 or 43 he has a legit shot. He deserves to be in the discussion.
He is second among the active starters, only Moyer has more wins at 260, but he is almost 10 years younger. I hope that they both reach 300 wins but it does seem more likely that Pettitte will reach the number than Moyer. Maybe there will be a WS match up between the Yanks and Phils and have the two veterans pitching against each other? A man can hope right?
