How many are in...

The goal of this blog is to be a journal of my thoughts regarding who I think might have the potential to join the exclusive group of pitchers who have won 300 games. To begin the 2010 season there are only 24 pitchers that have ever won that many games. There have been thousands of pitchers who have performed over the history of this great game, but just those very few have been so successful.

The reality is by the end of this season that number will still be 24. Unless Jamie Moyer wins 20 games this season and again next year no one will join that group by the end of the 2011 season. It is unlikely that Moyer will ever be able to join this exclusive club, but heres hoping.

In order to reach 300 you first have to reach 200 wins. Well there have only been 110 pitchers that have even attained that level. The active pitcher who is closest to going over the 200 win mark is Tim Wakefield with 189 career wins. I am not sure he has 11 more wins left in his arm. The next closest are Livan Hernandez and then Kevin Millwood.

I still believe that guys like Halladay have a chance to reach the elusive 300 win mark. Maybe in the year 2017, if this blog is still around, I will be writing about it. Potentially that will be the same year that Albert Pujols hits his 700th. Until that time comes I am going to be excited to watch some of the great young talent coming up to the big leagues.
