Disappointing starts to the season

There have been a number of starters that have gotten off to slow starts to the season. One of them is Jon Lester. Lester is struggling as is the entire Red Sox squad. I don't think Boston or Lester can afford to continue in this vain, as the Yankees and the Rays are off to great starts. Lester's numbers are 0-2 with an ERA of 8.44, He has walked nine batters in just 16 innings.

Zach Greinke last years AL Cy Young award winner is also off to a poor start. He has not been anywhere close to as bad as Lester but his numbers are not too impressive. He has now started three games and his record sits at 0-2 and his ERA is at 3.50. He is also having control issues as he walked five in his last start that lasted just five innings.

There have also been some pleasant surprises thus far. A trio of players I am watching are Andy Pettitte, Matt Garza, and Fausto Carmona.

Most frustrated player of the night had to be Barry Zito. Zito pitched 7 1/3 innings of shutout ball before being pulled with a runner on 1st. He wanted to stay in the game but got yanked out only to see his reliever give up a 2 run HR to Manny Ramirez. Maybe next time he will be allowed to finish what he started.
