Griffey is retiring

Well it is a very sad day in the baseball world as one of the best all time players is finally retiring after an amazing career. Ken Griffey Jr. came into the bigs with lots of hype and he delivered. I am saddened but it appears his baseball body has final passed him by.

I loved watching the Kid play in 1989 in his first as he was incredible both offensively and defensively. As a sportcard collector it was always an incredible feeling to open up a pack of baseball cards and find that Griffey Jr. RC. I believe he was the best player of the 90's even though people could argue differently.

I feel like he could have taken a run at Hank Aaron's homerun mark if he had been able to remain healthy. He ended up with 630 HR's and he basically missed 5 seasons in the prime of his career. If he had hit just 25 HR's in each of those seasons he would have been right there. Sadly though those injuries did happen and in spite of them he had an outstanding career.

I will miss watching Griffey Jr. The next time I will watch him closely will be in five years when he goes into the Hall of Fame. To one of the classiest players ever, thanks for 20 + years of enjoyment.
